Looking back on the last year or so, I think I’ve been slowly cultivating a look without realizing it.
When the pandemic lockdown started, I wore my hair pretty short. Combined with my beard I looked something like this:
Working in the basement in a tshirt, Vans and some trousers.
I’d trim my beard back every now and again, but I stuck to my uniform, more or less.
My hair started growing out, barbershops were closed, so I ordered some clippers, so I could go back to cutting my own hair.
But then again, the Boogaloo Boys, the Proud Boys and their repulsive ilk all sport the shaved head or fascist hair with a beard. I didn’t want anyone to confuse my ethos, so I kept growing my hair out, at times approaching a Rasputin-like profile.
The past month or so, as we’ve been in Tucson to help out my dad, I’ve been evolving what I wear a bit. Bandana as face mask, sunglasses to keep off the glare…
And a hat to keep the sun off my face. This new phase I’ve been calling, Arizona Dirtbag.
As I was socializing this around, I got a tweak from my friend Neal, who is a good authority on Southern Arizona culture…
“You need a shitty, late model American car to drive around in.”
So, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled in the AutoTrader for something like this:
Wish me luck

That is the type of car I picture you driving around, when you are not in a mail truck.
